Reminders

  • Please note that the Academic Year Calendar for the Southwest Virginia Governor's School varies somewhat from the calendars of the divisions served by the school. Students and parents should take care to note specific days when SWVGS may be open or closed and how those dates may differ from the plans of their home high schools.
  • Students should refer to local websites, radio, and television stations for the official closing of Pulaski County Public Schools. If Pulaski County schools are closed, two hours late, or one hour late, the Governor's School is closed. The Governor's School administration will not issue a separate snow bulletin. If Pulaski County schools were already scheduled to be closed on a day on which inclement weather occurs, students should refer to local websites, radio, and television stations for the official closing of Wythe County Public schools. In that case, if Wythe County schools are closed, two hours late, or one hour late, the Governor's School is closed. Students are advised not to call the Governor's School for closing information.
  • If a student's home school has a snow day when the Governor's School is open, the student is not expected to attend Governor's School classes but the student is responsible for making up missed work. Students should not attempt to travel to the Governor's School when the school officials in their area close school due to hazardous weather conditions.
  • Unless explicitly told otherwise by the teacher assigning the work, all SWVGS students are expected to submit their own work on individual projects, tests, exams, research papers, homework assignments, laboratory reports, and in-class assignments. For group activities, all work is expected to be that of the group's members.

If instructed that assistance may not be received from anyone other than another SWVGS teacher, the instructions mean exactly that. If there is any doubt about the level of assistance being contemplated, students should ask for clarification from the teacher(s) for whom the work is being done.
