Educational Philosophy

Learning and teaching are part of the human experience.

Students learn through reading, listening, watching, interacting, and contemplating. As lifelong learners, we all construct our knowledge from what we observe and feel. We all influence others through our words, but even more through our actions. Education, therefore, is a string of experiences involving what we learn from and share with others.

Imparting a love of learning is essential to good teaching.

Intrinsic motivation is difficult to develop in students, but required for learning to continue throughout one's lifetime. Our most influential teachers are the ones who take the time to share what they know and what they do not know, and make students realize that teachers are simply facilitators along the learning path. Teaching is not purely about delivering and testing knowledge; teaching is preparing students to discover on their own.

We all learn in different ways, and we can all be successful.

A one-size-fits-all attitude does not work in education. Students have different needs, and educators must meet those needs in order to effectively lead students to success. Just as providing appropriate instructions to students with learning disabilities is a must, we must also provide gifted students with instruction that meets their needs. We are all students with special needs and should be taught in a way that makes learning meaningful and enjoyable.
